AN IMPORTANT SAFETY MESSAGE FROM THE GRASS LAKE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT
In the past week we have had two situations when parents were late for their bus stop, then chased the bus and released their children after the bus had cancelled their overhead lights and was ready to leave the stop. This CANNOT happen.

If your school bus is at your stop and your children are not ready to board when the bus stops, you have missed the bus and must take your children to school. DO NOT CHASE THE BUS!

Also, if you use a group stop and you arrive when the bus is already in the lot, please do not enter the lot. You have missed the bus and must take your children to school. We CANNOT have cars trying to rush their children to the bus when other children are walking across the lot.

Any questions, contact Doug Moeckel at 517-522-5544.
Grass Lake Middle School students bring life to historical non-fictions

Reading about school segregation, the Holocaust, the Apollo 11 moon landing, children working in coal mines and yellow fever is one thing. But sixth-grade English teacher Kim Gorman has learned that her Grass Lake Middle School students grasp this kind of historical non-fiction literature better if they make it come to life. Go to http://bit.ly/13UApKa for the rest of the story.

New 7th Grade Homework Policy Announced
Dear 7th grade parents, In order to better prepare our students for the demands of 8th grade and beyond, we will be implementing a new late assignment policy effective Monday, February 25. Some teachers have already started applying this policy due to the specific nature of their classroom work or the ending of a unit/chapter. Our new policy is as follows:

All late assignments will be given 50% credit. After 1 week, zero credit will be given. Teachers may still record these assignments as missing and may require that they be completed if the work is necessary for test preparation, the next skill set, etc. Only best effort, completed work will be accepted. Absences will be given consideration and teachers will work with students on an individual basis. However, students are responsible for getting work missed from absences.

Thank you, Your GLMS 7th grade teacher team
GLMS Announces New 8th Grade Homework Policy
On Tuesday, February 19, the following policy went into effect for eighth graders. This policy is being instituted to better prepare our students for the rigor of high school. The fourth quarter policy shown here more closely aligns with high school expectations and procedures.

Third Quarter (Ends March 28):
  • 50% of earned credit if turned in within one week of due date or by the end of the unit (whichever comes first)
  • No credit after one week or unit/chapter test
  • Reasonable best effort is required for any late/missing assignment to be evaluated
Fourth Quarter:
  • No late work accepted unless absent
